An Indigenous Way of Thinking. A Modern Way Forward.

Global Indigenous Development Trust (GIDT) is an Indigenous-led organization dedicated to empowering communities, leaders, and Nations through the wisdom of ancestral knowledge and the opportunities of modern innovation.

Who is GIDT

We are a collective of Indigenous leaders, Elders, youth, knowledge holders, entrepreneurs, and allies working together to imagine and build a future that is healthy, abundant, free, and fair for all. Guided by natural law and Indigenous ways of knowing, we believe many of today’s greatest challenges can be addressed by reconnecting with the principles that have sustained Indigenous Peoples for generations.

At GIDT, we bridge ancestral wisdom with modern opportunity—transforming ideas into action through leadership development, community initiatives, research, storytelling, and strategic partnerships. By bringing together diverse perspectives, knowledge systems, and experiences, we help create pathways toward sovereignty, prosperity, innovation, and long-term collective wellbeing.

Why We Exist

Together we are writing our new collective story

What Makes GIDT Different

Think-and-Do Tank

We don’t just generate ideas.

We help communities turn ideas into real-world action.

Our role is to connect people, knowledge, and opportunities that help communities strengthen sovereignty, build capacity, and create meaningful change.

Our symbol represents the power of coming together. Found in many forms across cultures around the world, it reflects connection, community, and shared purpose. For GIDT, it symbolizes the gathering of people, knowledge, and ideas working together to create a better future.

Our Vision

A woven tapestry of sovereign peoples and thriving communities shaping a future of collective wellbeing for generations present and yet to come.

Building a Global Village

We believe every Nation, community, and culture carries unique gifts, teachings, and perspectives. At GIDT, we see the world as a modern Global Village—a growing network of communities learning with and from one another while maintaining their own identity, sovereignty, and traditions. By sharing knowledge, strengthening relationships, and working together toward common goals, we can create solutions that benefit not only Indigenous communities, but future generations everywhere.

GIDT is a Canadian Indigenous social enterprise and registered charity founded in 2014.

Through its extensive global network, GIDT is a bridge, a catalyst and a value creator for its Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners, bringing best-practices globally to support innovation locally.
