In these times of uncertainty, we must look to our own self-reliance once again. We must go back to the land, back to working with the land and back to our natural values and principles. Investing in our communities is the only “fail safe” measure at this time for it will give us the strength and resilience necessary to weather any storm. It is time to move away from dependency on a system that has never worked for us, towards a system that we have always known to be true.
This means taking simple measures to ensure that our communities and families are self-reliant and able to sustain themselves through challenging times that may be ahead. We strongly encourage all communities to implement measures that provide the minimum self-reliance in these three areas: food, energy, water. These are investments that you can make yourselves. Do not wait for government to provide the solutions or funds.
Making investments into food security, energy and water systems over the coming weeks and months, will ensure that our communities are stable through tough times, as our ancestors have always taught us to be. At this time of unpredictable policies and unstable markets, investments and currencies, relying on each other is the only safety measure we can count on.
Lay your tobacco and share your blessings. Set intentions for peace and harmony. This is now the time that the Indigenous ways of thinking are most needed. The spirit world is here in great numbers to assist and guide in the direction of healthy continuity. We must only ask for assistance. Remain free thinkers and stand strong in our values, beliefs and connection with Great Spirit, through the heart-center. It is this connection with life-force that has made the Indigenous nations of the world strong and resilient for thousands of years.
As nature sheds the old to make way for the new, we too can allow the old that no longer serves to fall away and leave in place the true values and understandings that are at the core of the human way. This is what we rebuild from. Let us focus our energies on together building a world of sovereign nations and communities grounded in truth, in love and in natural understandings, freely sharing and thriving as diverse beings we all are. This is our opportunity now.
We have provided in a list of simple, quick and cost effective options, ranging from very inexpensive to more complex, depending on the financial position of your community. These include ways to get your people gardening, pickling, preserving, building root cellars, greenhouses, renewable energy and water filtration systems. If you have other suggestions that you like or things that you are already doing that are working, please do share them so that we can share them with the other communities across Canada. How we support one another through this global economic transition, will determine how we go forward as many nations.

Autosuficiencia: Un Camino Adelante
En tiempos de incertidumbre y confusión, debemos volver a nuestra propia autosuficiencia una vez más. Debemos volver a la tierra, volviendo a trabajar con la tierra y volviendo a los valores y principios naturales. Invertir en la comunidad es la única medida “a prueba de fallas” en este momento, ya que proporcionará la fuerza y la resistencia necesarias para resistir cualquier tormenta.
Esto significa tomar medidas simples para garantizar que las comunidades y las familias sean autosuficientes y puedan mantenerse a sí mismas en los tiempos difíciles que pueden presentarse. Como la naturaleza arroja lo viejo para dar paso a lo nuevo, nosotros también podemos permitir que lo viejo que ya no sirve se caiga y deje en su lugar los verdaderos valores y entendimientos que están en el centro de la forma humana. De esto reconstruimos. Centremos nuestras energías en construir juntos un mundo de naciones y comunidades soberanas basadas en la verdad, en el amor y en los entendimientos naturales, compartiendo y prosperando libremente como seres diversos que todos somos. Esta es nuestra oportunidad ahora.
